MGS ANGELS is a network of Old (and not so old) Mancs who have a wide variety of business experience. Through the network we can and will offer free advice, grants and seed capital to any Old Manc either considering setting up his own business or looking to expand an existing one.
Our areas of expertise include, but are by no means limited to:venture capital,
consultancy,
corporate law, accountancy and taxation, and
property development. We have strong bases in both Manchester and London and as a group range from highly respected professionals to risk-taking entrepreneurs. We are all, however, successful in our individual fields, mostly running our own businesses.
We realise it is a difficult step to start out by yourself (we've done it) and believe the breadth of experience we have as a group could be invaluable to anyone entering the jungle beyond the safety of secure employment.
Examples of practical advice include:
preparing start-up businesses to approach venture capitalists for much larger sums of money;
the more mundane aspects of company structure, to incorporate or not;
establishing lines of credit;
marketing.
In addition, if the relationship works, individual Angels may be interested in developing a longer-term involvement with the business on a personal level.
The advice is entirely free with no strings attached. However, we hope that any Old Manc who eventually benefits from the advice will feel able to make a suitable donation to MGS through The MGS Trust.
For an initial informal chat, please email either the Angels' Chairman, Paul Ormerod (pormerod@volterra.co.uk) or Ian Thorpe, MGS's Director of Development (i.thorpe@mgs.org).
